SAINT JUDE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

Photographer Isabella Sophia was born in the rural area outside of Malibu, California in 2003.  She frolicked with animals, and practiced unconventional sports as a child such as BMX and mastering the compound bow.  Isabella was raised in an unconventional household that often brought other children in need into the home.  This infused her young mind with flexibility, and compassion for others and things around her.  Her connection with nature, and understanding of people infuses her current body of work into a relatable experience for the viewer.

Isabella spends many hours around professional artists, and recently became interested in the tools artists use to create their works.  These materials have become the primary inspiration for her current body of photographs.  The subject matter provides the textures and richness she desires, to convey the complexity of an artist's process.  Shen chooses tools that have a certain patina, to allow the viewer into a more complex world, unveiling what an artist's life really consists of..  Exposing some of the unseen side, provides her a connection to the real grit of what nit takes for an artist to create and noverlap with her personal interests and experiences.

Isabella comes from a long lineage of artists in her family, and therefore developed a "free spirit" sensibility in her youth that is visible in then subject matters she chooses to photograph. At just 18 years of age Isabella is na junior in college4, works as a receptionist part time, and also assists in her mother's art studio. m She enjoys being outside in nature, surfing, backpacking, and is greatly interested in environmental studies and sustainability.  She manages to juggle many ifferent facets in her li8fe along with continuing her inspiration for photographing materials to convey "being in then moment" in a single shot.
